RMCLAS 2022 Final Program Now Available
The 2022 Final Program for RMCLAS is now available here! See you in Las Cruces and please contact us with any questions.
Dear RMCLASistas,
If you are flying into the El Paso airport (50 minutes drive to Las Cruces) and you are not renting a car, you can take the Las Cruces Shuttle (575-525 1784) to your hotel. You will get a discount if you mention that you are coming to the Rocky Mountain conference: $90 dollars roundtrip to the conference hotel (it may be a little more to other hotels). Also, if you can pair up with someone and book together, the rate becomes much cheaper for the second person (companion fare).
The conference will take place on the New Mexico State University campus – there will be both parking on campus for those with a car, and a shuttle running continuously from the hotel to the campus Conference Center during the three days of the conference (about a five minute drive).
Las Cruces is not a town with good public transportation, so if you want to explore the city and the area while you are here, I would recommend renting a car either at the airport, or in town. However, you do not need a car for the purposes of the conference.
I look forward to seeing you in Las Cruces!

RMCLAS 2022 Annual Conference
The 69th Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain Council for Latin American Studies will be held in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Wednesday, April 6th through Saturday, April 9th, 2022. The conference will be hybrid with presenters able to attend online or in person. The RMCLAS Annual Conference provides an opportunity for scholars and graduate students to share original research on Latin America.
Call for Papers
Panels and paper proposals on any topic in Latin American Studies are welcome. In addition to panels that present original research, we also welcome panels and roundtable discussions that focus on other aspects of academic life, including pedagogy, career planning, and teaching. We encourage presentations from all disciplines including, but not limited to, Anthropology, Archaeology, Art History, Cultural Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, Ethnomusicology, Film Studies, Gender Studies, History, Linguistics, Literature, Political Science, and Sociology.
Ideally, panels consist of a chair, at least three presenters, and a commentator (one of whom may be the chair, another commentator, or the audience). Papers can be presented in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Please fill out the panel proposal on the Google form here: RMCLAS2022
This form will also accommodate single-paper proposals. The deadline for panel and paper proposals is January 24, 2022. Be sure to hit “submit” when you are done. It is probably wise to prepare your panel proposal in your word processing program, then paste it into this form (to avoid losing info etc.). You should have a backup of your proposal in any case.
The conference hotel is the Las Cruces Ramada Hotel and Conference Center by Wyndham. The conference rate of $89 dollars + tax is available until March 23rd (Phone: 575-613-4693). All in-person attendees must present proof of vaccination and booster, as per NMSU policy, at the time of registration.
Membership in RMCLAS and conference registration is required to participate in the conference.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Truitt (truit1jg@cmich.edu)
